• State figures show there were 874 suicides in Wisconsin in 2015. In Wisconsin five times as many people die from suicides as from homicides. In almost half of all completed suicides a firearm was used.
  • Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 15-24 and the third leading cause for ages 25-44.  The greatest number of suicide deaths was among 35 – 54 year old men.

  • Veterans account for 20% of all completed suicides.  For people age 55 and older, veterans account for almost half of completed suicides.
  • Suicide is 2 to 3 times higher for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) youth.
